What is a DVR?
A (DVR) Digital Video Recorder is in simplistic form, a PC which acts like a VCR in that it has the ability to record and playback video images. The DVR takes the feed from a camera and records it into a digital format on a storage device which is most commonly the hard drive.

Are there differences among DVR software?
Absolutely, just as important as the hardware is the software that operates the hardware. The software that runs the principal functions of the DVR is driven by a database. The architecture and design of the database are crucial for system stability and speed of which it processes the data. Quite often poor database structure will slow down even the best hardware and in many cases, cause system crashes.

Can I view live and recorded video remotely?
Yes, you can view live and recorded video from anywhere either through Internet, Cell Phone, or PDA. You can view your cameras from any standard PC that has an internet connection and a Web browser.

Can the DVR interface with POS systems?
Yes, our DVRs integrate with most POS systems via an optional POS interface module.

Can I record audio?
Yes, with an optional audio module

Can I use my existing cameras?
The simple answer is yes. Your existing cameras will work and simply plug into the back of the DVR. If your cameras are not so current you may want to investigate some of the newer cameras which are higher in resolution and may have more features. Typically, higher resolution cameras mean higher quality images.

How many cameras can I plug into a video capture card?
It depends upon the particular DVR system but typically anywhere from 1 to 32 cameras into a single system. So if there was 64 cameras there would be two systems interfaced together.

How does the PC monitor connect to my cameras?
The cameras connect to the DVR. The DVR then outputs the signal to the PC monitor or to a CCTV monitor.

Can I zoom in with a camera?
Yes, but you need to purchase a camera with that functionality built in. Comparatively speaking to fixed cameras these are expensive and typically cost on average from $1,000 on up

How can access control help me?
Global Security Solutions can install an access control system of any size in your home or business. What makes Key Card systems so functional is the fact there is no need for keys. Key management can be a very time consuming and an expensive task for a business especially. Using key cards gives the administrator ultimate control of who goes where within a facility. Key cards cannot be copied like a key can and if an employee leaves the business the key card can easily be voided instead of having to change the locks. Key Card systems can also be integrated with software so you can log the movement throughout the facility.

How can a biometric authentication system help me?
Biometrics is the number one solution in access control. Biometrics uses a personÕs finger print or Iris as a key. These characteristics cannot be copied. The advantage biometrics has over key card systems is that there is no need for even a card. Biometrics eliminates the need for any key or key card which makes management virtually effort free.

Intercom systems give you a way to screen who is at an entrance of your home or business. IntercomÕs can be setup throughout your facility so you can screen from anywhere within your facility.
